Hi, I'm Julie ... artist, photographer, potter, etc. I am so happy you are here! I consider this blog my creative journal where I can share my recent work, ideas and dreams, and lots of little details about my life. Please make yourself at home. Whether you are a bride-to-be, a photographer, or just a visitor, I hope you will find inspiration here and even become a friend. |
Kathryn & Francis got married early in October at Maple Grove Inn in Knoxville, TN. It was such a beautiful day ... the weather was crispy and cool like a perfect fall day ... and every little detail was so thoughtful and lovely. Along with several DIY projects, Kathryn also had an amazing team of vendors to make her wedding come together with a simple, vintagey-rustic style.

The following commentary is from an interview with the bride herself!
How did the two of you meet? We were working as summer camp counselors at Camp Ozark in 2008 and were introduced through a mutual friend. We kept in touch through out college and saw each other when I visited Jackson, TN (where he grew up). In April 2010 Francis visited me in Birmingham to be my date to my last Semi Formal and ended up wanting more than a friendship after spending time together!
Was there a moment when you knew you were in love? We both felt it pretty early on. Francis says he knew as he was driving back to school after the weekend in Birmingham that he wanted to marry me and by the time I saw him the following weekend I was smitten myself! Even though most of our dating relationship was long distance, we knew we wanted to be together forever so that made it worth it to us!
Describe the proposal: While visiting family on a beautiful March day in Washington, DC, we went to the National Mall with my younger sister Kary. While we were exploring the different areas of the National Botanical Gardens, my sister disappeared. I turned around and Francis got down on his knee and asked me to be his wife! Kary had been hiding beneath a tree taking pictures, which I am so thankful to have! After that we met up with the rest of my family, who had gone to pick up his mom from the airport without my knowing, and we went to lunch at the historical Old Ebbitt Grill near the White House. We love DC and it was so special to start this journey there with our families!
What was the most emotional part of the day for you? Seeing each other for the first time that day!
What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? Photographer and Venue!
Who was your favorite vendor and why? This is so hard to decide!! Obviously we have the best photographer ever… but besides that Allie King with Sassafras flowers was awesome to work with. And, of course, Vicki, the coordinator at The Maple Grove Inn, kept everything going smoothly from the day we booked the venue! And can’t forget about the cakes from Alicia Fugate which were above and beyond our expectations!
Did you do any DIY projects? So many! Almost all the reception décor was either made or discovered by my mom or myself. We had several aunts and uncles that contributed items and helped set up day of. My mom made all the linens and my sisters helped with the other pieces like the chalk board and the cards box.
