Hi, I'm Julie ... artist, photographer, potter, etc. I am so happy you are here! I consider this blog my creative journal where I can share my recent work, ideas and dreams, and lots of little details about my life. Please make yourself at home. Whether you are a bride-to-be, a photographer, or just a visitor, I hope you will find inspiration here and even become a friend. |
How did the two of you meet? Kevin and I met in March 2006 during a trip I took to Miami with some girlfriends. A mutual friend helped connect my roommate at the time with Kevin and a group of his friends who invited us out on their boat. Who would’ve guessed we’d never meet until this night even though we both grew up in Knoxville, had some of the same friends and lived most of our lives just miles apart! We had an immediate chemistry and several months later we began a long distance relationship.
What was your favorite thing about planning your wedding? The most fun part of wedding planning was in the beginning stages. Castleton Farms set up a “Castleton experience” where we met with several of our vendors in one day. The food tasting was definitely Kevin’s favorite part. We also really enjoyed working with Designs in Paper to come up with our invitation design and personalized paper goods. I also really enjoyed the hunt for the dress. NY Bride and Groom did some amazing custom work on my gown to make it look exactly how I wanted and made it such a fun experience.
Was there a moment when you knew you were in love? Even though there was an immediate attraction, I fell in love with Kevin over the course of months of phone conversations. I moved to Panama City in September 2006 to start my career in broadcasting, and Kevin remained in Miami while attending law school. Six months passed before we saw each other again for just the second time. I was hooked. It certainly didn’t take long for him to sweep me off my feet with his charm! (Kevin says it was love at first sight )
Describe the proposal: Just before Valentine's Day, Kevin planned a skiing trip to Beech Mountain, NC where he rented a cabin for the weekend. When we arrived on Saturday, I had no idea what was about to happen. Because we love to take trips together, I assumed it was just another fun trip, and I was prepared for an adventure since we had never been skiing together. We spent the entire afternoon hanging out in the cabin, talking, relaxing, and just having an amazing time being together with no distractions. It was the perfect day. Kevin made reservations that night at Jackalope's View restaurant which has an incredible view of the slopes. As we got ready for dinner, I bundled up in my warmest clothes before heading out the door. As we went to leave, Kevin grabbed my hand and, when I turned around, he was on his knee, telling me how much he loved me and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. Of course, I said yes!
Three adjectives that describe your wedding day are: We’d describe our wedding as a fun-filled, shabby-chic, Pinteresting kind of wedding (Kevin just made this up and he thinks he’s so clever)
What is the one thing you are most happy you splurged on? Video and photography were the two MOST important things to me when planning our wedding. It is so important to choose vendors who will creatively document your day and capture the special moments that will last forever. They captured so much of the day that we didn’t even get to see, and now we can relive it over and over again for the rest of our lives.
What was your biggest day-of crisis and how did you handle it? We didn’t really have any big day-of-crises thanks to our fabulous wedding planner, Darla Walker. She took care of everything! As stressed as I was before the wedding making sure we had everything in place, I let it all go on the big day and just enjoyed every moment.
What was the best thing about the whole day? I really enjoyed our time together before the ceremony. There was some debate about whether we should see each other beforehand, but I’m so glad we did! We had our “first look” in the vineyard, and it was so special to exchange gifts and take a moment to be together before the craziness began!
