Creative :: Photography Workshops in Review

Let me begin by saying how much I LOVE teaching the workshops!  I feel like each one is better than the last and I am so grateful to all the vendors who make it possible and all the students who make it worth all the hard work!

This past weekend I braved another Photography Elementary Class ... which is all about learning the absolute basics of camera use and photographic tools.  We discuss shooting modes, understanding natural light, creative composition, etc.  This was the first time I have hosted The Shoot Lab: a marathon of photo sessions with a variety of models.  The goal of The Shoot Lab is to offer students an opportunity to practice what they've just learned PLUS provide a portfolio building experience.

A huge thanks to all of our super models who did an amazing job!

Overall ... I would say that the day was packed full of intense learning and lots of fun.  But you don't have to take my word for it!!!  Here are some feedback and images from the students.  I feel like a proud momma ... I love my students and I can see so much growth in the ones that have attended multiple workshops with me.  You all are awesome!

"My whole expierence with the workshop was AWESOME! Julie is a wonderful teacher with a great personality. She made the day fun & interesting. I am looking forward to future workshops with her. I would totally recommend this. In fact, I have already been telling a coworker about it!"  ~Bethany (Tramel & Co. Photography)

"I am self-taught with digital cameras, and I had never been able to use the shutter priority or aperture priority comfortably, but it makes much more sense now. The shoot lab was a comfortable environment to practice. There was no pressure so it was easy to take your time and make sure everything was ready when taking the pictures instead of feeling like you had to rush. The models were excellent, everyone tried to be respectful about letting other people get their shots, and the setting was gorgeous. This was so wonderful! Thank you for offering this amazing class. I feel like I learned so much that I can apply to my photography in the future."  ~Chastidyi (Star Noir Studios)

"I felt comfortable at the workshop location and liked the laid back atmosphere. Julie is friendly and easy to talk to. I appreciated her explanations and how willing she was to answer all of my questions. And I really loved learning a little bit about the Beloved technique!"  ~Gwen Goulder

"Since your August workshop, I no longer shoot in “auto” and I have no desire to use anything but manual settings!  You picked perfect locations and models for portfolio building. The variety of beautiful models at the shoot lab was a perfect mix to incorporate every type of client. I would definitely recommend this workshop!"  ~Laura Tomlinson (Little Things Photography)

"I really enjoyed the shoot lab because I have not had a lot of opportunities to have strangers in front of my camera. I really enjoyed the workshop and I'm so glad I came! I was able to get images that I was proud of and continue to find areas that I want to work on. This was just what I needed. Thank you Julie for putting this workshop on!"  ~Kristyn Burnette

Here is a wonderful review from one of the Personal Professional Fall 2011 Students:

"I would recommend Julie's Personal Professional to anyone trying to start a photography business and many people that already have one. After working on my business for almost three years, I finally had the direction and focus I needed after attending the workshop. Julie's exercises helped me to really delve into who I am as a person and how I want to present that as a business, and I think that the changes will help me cater to the clients who will fit with me perfectly. The vendors that she paired with to help set up the workshop gave us a beautiful setting for Julie to show us some of the techniques she uses to capture such bright and airy images as well as giving us some unique work to include in our portfolios. Although it was initially hard for me to justify spending that much money on myself, I think it was worth every penny. I believe that this workshop will be the impetus that pushes my business exactly where I want it to be.

What I really loved …  The homework questions that helped me really decide where I want to go with my business.  The insight into the beloved techniques.   The wonderful models we were able to work with.  The specific photo techniques you discussed with us that you use often … positioning them in front of the light, open shade, etc.  The continual support and private facebook community for us to discuss problems, ask questions, and share images.

I just can't tell you how much you have helped me, and I really appreciate all of the effort you put into the workshops for us. Hopefully, I will be able to join you again in the future. " ~Chastidyi (Star Noir Studio)
